If you write fiction with ambulances, tanks, or software teams in it, I can help it feel true.
I’ve watched plenty of books and shows get the facts right and the experience wrong. The procedure is accurate, but nobody is bored, exhausted, scared, or cracking the joke a real crew would crack. I’ve been a tank crewman (the Fulda Gap, then Desert Storm), an EMT and paramedic, and a software test engineer. I can’t give you the facts any better than a reference book can, but I can give you that texture.
So I’m offering it as a service:
- Quick Question ($35): one scenario, one written answer.
- Scene Review ($100): notes on a scene of up to about 3,000 words.
- Longer works: custom quote.
Everything happens by email, on your schedule and mine. Details, caveats, and the request form are on the Realism for Writers page.
If you know a writer who could use this, I’d be grateful if you passed it along.
